DANIEL GOULOOZE.
Daniel Goulooze, alias DAAN.

Dutch Communist Party leader who rendered considerable assistance to Wenzel's communications service in the Low Countries from 1938, by providing recruits from within the Communist Party and his WT link with Moscow, when Wenzel's own lines failed.

Was between 1936 and 1937 concerned with the formation of an under-cover intelligence service in Holland and provided its link with the Dutch Communist Party.

Visited Moscow in 1937 and was given instructions regarding the operation of a Communist Party WT service between Amsterdam and Moscow. Visited by Wenzel in Amsterdam.

Established a reserve transmitter in Amsterdam in 1938.

By the end of 1938 he provided Wenzel with a Dutch agent Winterink, for training as a WT operator.

In June 1939 he provided Wenzel with yet an other Dutch Communist, Adam Nagel, for the Belgian service.

Visited Moscow again in 1939, where final discussions were held regarding the operation after outbreak of war of the Dutch information service. Obtained a reserve WT code which in the spring of 1940 Goulooze gave to Gurevich.

In October 1939 he arranged a meeting in Belgium with CLEMENT (? Gurevich) to relay latter's reports to Moscow over his Communist Party transmitter in Amsterdam. Material taken by CLEMENT or his couriers to Goulooze for transmission.

In early 1940 the establishment of CLEMENT's own operator in Brussels terminated Goulooze's responsibilities in this direction.
Later sent WT technician August van Proosdij on temporary loan to CLEMENT in Brussels.

In the beginning of 1942 couriers from Germany brought mail from Alfred Knochel's information service for transmission over Goulooze's link to Moscow. Sent August van Proosdij to establish a WT link within Germany for Knochel.

By summer 1942 Goulooze's service possessed 5 transmitters in Amsterdam.

In July 1942 Learnt from Nagel of the liquidation of Wenzel's network in Belgium.

In the autumn of 1942 he supplied Jan Kruyt (junior), parachuted by R.U. into Holland that summer, with WT operator De Laar and transmitter.

In November 1942 he was responsible for assisting Frans Cuhn a parachute agent intended for Knochel's group. Out of touch with Knochel; he sent Cuhn to Jan Kruyt instead.

Goulooze became aware of German penetration in 1943 of Knochel's service, which appears to have led subsequently to penetration of Goulooze's group in Holland.
